EDUCARE: GENERAL INFORMATION
(Back to Registration Information)

FIRST AID
All staff members are permitted to apply first aid to any child who has been comforted and cared for, the attending caregiver will fill out an injury report. Parents may receive a copy of the report upon request. If staff feels a parent should be notified immediately about the accident, the Principal or teacher will contact the family.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Parents should understand that in the event of an emergency, we would make arrangements to transport your child to the hospital that you have stated on the medical emergency form. Every effort will be made to contact the parents/guardians before emergency treatment is administered.

CHILD ABUSE REPORTING
In accordance with the provisional Section 432 of the NYS Social Services...the staff and Principal of the daycare are to report to the NYS Child Abuse and Maltreatment Register, whenever there is reasonable cause to suspect that a child has been abused or maltreated.

The Principal is responsible for making or causing a report to be made to the Child Abuse and Maltreatment Register IMMEDIATELY by telephone within 48 hours by writing a report to the appropriate department of Social Services in the county in which the child resides. All observations made by the staff and Principal that lead to a report of child abuse being filed will be documented and kept at the daycare.

COMMUNICATION
We feel that it is very important for you and the staff to have an open line of professional communication. Communication between parents and teachers is essential for your children since the daycare will play an important part in his/her daily life.

Our goal is to provide a positive working relationship between parents and staff. Should this philosophy be jeopardized, by intimidating, rude, or threatening behavior, the family would then be asked to leave our daycare.

Each child will have their own mailbox. Here they will collect the inevitable decorations for your refrigerator. It is very important to check your child's mailbox everyday. Your children put a lot of time and effort into their projects, please take note. Parent memos and newsletters will also be found in these mailboxes.

DISCIPLINE
Structure and routine are very important in helping children to function as part of a group. When safety is at risk or rules are broken, it is necessary for us to correct behaviors. Positive reinforcements are used in guiding behaviors (such as stickers). Once the children become familiar with our routines and expectations, gentle reminders are all that are usually needed. Sitting or time-out is used in any type of aggressive behaviors. After a period of time, we discuss what has happened and ways to handle the problem.

In the event that certain behaviors are present (biting, hitting, intentional hurting of others) it may be necessary for parents and staff to have a conference. This way we can work together to correct the behaviors.

FOOD PROGRAM
Each child will be required to bring a lunch daily. This lunch needs to include a cold pack, since refrigeration is not available. Please send lunches that are ready to eat, as we do not have the facilities to warm or prepare lunches. No chips, cookies, candy, or unhealthy snacks are permitted. We encourage fruit, vegetables, and healthy snacks.

A.M. and P.M. SNACKS WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE DAYCARE. THIS WILL INCLUDE A NUTRITIOUS SNACK AND MILK OR JUICE TO DRINK.

BIRTHDAY PARTY POLICY
Children celebrating their birthday may bring in a special treat to share with the class. We ask that your child only bring enough for everyone in the class. if a family wishes to invite children to a party outside of the schoo, ask the Principal for a list of approved names to release to his/her address. NO birthday invitations will be distributed in class.

PHOTO RELEASE
During the school year pictures/video tapes of special events, projects, and outings may be taken to capture specical memories we have made. These photos may be used for bulletin board displays, and may also be used for the promotion of the daycare. Please see the permission slip, complete, and return this form after reviewing registration materials.

FIELD TRIP / WALKING TRIPS
During good weather there may be occasional walking trips away from the daycare. These trips will be in the neighborhood, but off the school grounds. We will also plan field trips and welcome parent suggestions or participation.
